Summary "This work, comprising two ceramic vases, explored the natural material properties of porcelain clay and how its characteristics can be manipulated in an innovative way, specifically in the context of how to achieve a unique interplay of handmade and mass produced qualities.

Typically ceramic works are dried in a carefully controlled environment in order to prevent any damage during firing. However during the drying phase the material was physically handled and experimented upon with the resultant 'damage' explored as a design element in itself. During production each vase was given its own uniquely shaped opening, which was torn by hand as the vase was being dried. The outcome was a vase that expressed the combined qualities of handmade and mass-produced in one object.
Selected for exhibition in the 2004 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, New York, curated by Marco Pasanella, the work sat alongside leading innovative US designer's works, in this trade show of some 300 international designers and manufacturers including Tom Dixon, Molo Design, Bruehl and Oluce; ICFF previewed in Metropolis Magazine and selected for review by Metropolis Panel-Constructive Criticism (Margaret Swendseid, MetropolisMag.com); exhibited in 'Feliciti with ..' at Felissimo Design House, New York, USA 2004-2005; and featured in international press including The Philadelphia Inquirer, Mocoloco and Romitecho."
