Abstract We propose a new means for tuning fishnet metamaterials through MEMS manipulation of the unit cell geometry. Parametric investigation indicates that this approach can achieve a wider tuning range than modifying the substrate material properties. We simulate two switching states demonstrating effective operation at different frequencies in the GHz range.
