Abstract The purpose of this paper is to report on findings from a research project dealing with conflict arising out of the ownership of shared assets in high rise and master planned estates in developments in the state of Victoria, Australia. The research explores the nature of conflict in a legal entity known in Victoria as an owners corporation. Through semi-structured interviews with metropolitan and regional sites, the research explores the ways that conflict arises and is dealt with under relevant legislation. The paper discusses the role mediation and third party facilitation of conflict may play in the resolution of internal owners corporation disputes.
