Abstract The research reported in this paper aims to investigate the potential of integrating live forms and fabrics to enable social interactions at existing public sites as a brief for a transdisiciplinary student design project. Through the use of flexible and modular design and fabrication methods, mechatronics, and smart materials and textiles, existing public sites were augmented with interactive installations by groups of students coming together from multiple cognate design disciplines spanning public art to engineering and including textile design.
