Abstract The increasing volume of wastewater in urban areas often leads the wastewater treatment plants to intensify their process using existing equipment capacity. This usually results in the digestion of concentrated sludge in anaerobic digesters employed in these plants. This could often lead to ineffective mixing in digesters and ultimately their failure. Therefore, it is important to understand the hydrodynamics of anaerobic digesters so as to improve their mixing efficiency.
