Summary The modification of existing structures to enhance the resistant to seismic activity, ground motion or soil failure due to earthquakes is called Seismic Retrofitting. The force that causes the damage of the structure due to earthquake is termed as F-Inertial which is the internal force generated by the weight of the structure. Several factors are associated for the design of a structures to be seismic resistant such as torsion, ductility and so on. In this chapter a brief overview of many new technologies that are rapidly becoming more prevalent in the seismic design of building structures are presented. Retrofitting seismically deficient structures to reach an acceptable level of performance is highly regarded issues in the current context. To achieve this, methodology such as reducing the load effect input to the existing structures, or by improving the strength, stiffness, and/or ductility of the existing structures can be taken into considerations.
