Abstract The role of information and communications technologies (ICTs) in causing and resolving environmental sustainability issues has been attracting policy makers' and consultants' but remains a less researched topic. Usually coined as 'Green IT', each stage of the IT resources lifecycle from manufacturing to usage and disposal poses environmental concerns such as power consumption, greenhouse gas emission and land and water contamination.
