Summary In this chapter we describe key frameworks for understanding SES and models for analyzing the consequences of different decisions. We provide examples of the application of these frameworks and modeling tools in a variety of water resource management contexts. We conclude by critically analyzing the frameworks and tools available in terms of their capacity to support water resource management decisions and describe pathways to mainstream the use of these approaches.
