Summary The integration between the Danish and Swedish sides of the Oresund has created the largest joint labour and housing market in the Nordic region, with a combined population of 3.5 million. The region has great and rapidly growing creative potential. Sweden and Denmark are two of the leading nations in terms of scientific and technological research and development. The Oresund region and Stockholm-Uppsala have the most important creative roles in the Nordic region, and will jointly account for most of the future economic growth in Sweden and Denmark. This book shows how creativity and entrepreneurship depend on interaction with the rest of the world and on well-functioning institutions. The book provides an in-depth analysis of the need for institutional reforms in Sweden and Denmark. Investments in science and technology do not by themselves make regions creative. Such regions also require social values that are supportive of creativity, innovation, business start-ups and other types of entrepreneurship. The authors of the book emphasize the need for a society that is open to the rest of the world, and advocate substantial immigration, a global exchange of ideas and social tolerance.
