Abstract The botanical name for marigold is Calendula officinalis and this is often confused with French marigolds of the Tagetes genus, however, these are not used in herbal medicine, as they are toxic. German Commission E approves the topical use of calendula flower preparations in the treatment of poor wound healing, treatment for skin conditions and it is also officially indicated for inflammation of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa.
