Abstract/Summary In 2006, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) recognised that dedicated action was necessary to equip the health and aged care workforce to meet these challenges and tasked Health Workforce Australia (HWA) with this responsibility. As part of its broad work program, HWA has delivered the Workforce Innovation and Reform: Caring for Older People (CfOP) program, a large scale change program to examine whole-of-workforce reform models for the aged care workforce. The CfOP program was a national health and aged care workforce reform program that sought to enhance the capacity and sustainability of the health and aged care workforce for the care of older people, to improve the supply and efficiency of service delivery. HWA designed the program to deliver robust evaluation and demonstration of major shifts in workforce utilisation and deployment, to improve the supply and adaptability of the future workforce.
