Abstract In 2015, RMIT University Vietnam launched a new work placement project (Flagship Internship Project - FIP), in order to boost students' employability in a fast changing job market. One of the key components of this project was the self selection of learning outcomes and assessment modes by the students. This paper presents the first evaluation of this project by focusing on former students' perception of how these aspects contributed to the development of their employability. Forty alumni replied to the online survey. The survey's results were analysed using quantitative method (exploratory factor analysis). The researchers found out that the main contribution of the project as perceived by alumni is about 1) Collaboration and accountability, and 2) Self- improvement in the workplace. Further research around educators' and industry partners' perceptions of the project are ongoing, as well as evaluating the local environment specificities such as a fast growing economy and cultural specificities compared to the region and worldwide.
