Abstract The paper draws on a project involving a music educator and a visual arts educator in the design, implementation, and evaluation of an Arts course for third year pre-service primary teachers. The course incorporates a student group project entailing arts skills and links to other curriculum areas. In addition it encourages students to develop a sense of creativity and collegial collaboration and to explore learning experiences they might promote in their own classrooms. The paper outlines the key concepts underpinning the planned learning experiences and the students┬┐ engagement with these, particularly the project. It then draws on the reflections of one student group that, like many others, described their engagement with creative activity in the project as being synchronous with Gardner's Multiple Intelligences.
