Abstract This project is a gallery and museum dedicated to Nam June Paik and is conceptually a reworking of Mies van der Rohe¿s New National Gallery in Berlin. The reworking involved understanding the Miesian language in light of the meditations on contemporary media carried out by Nam June Paik. It is relevant also that Mies¿ body of work was drawing to a close as Nam June Paik¿s was beginning in earnest. The building fits into a pocket of land surrounded by forest and rising from its approach. The heavy base inserts itself into the hill and distorts around the land¿s contours. The glazed pavilion forms the entry point and its skin understood like a series of television screens. The space between the two part is opened up with a large void, thus placing the glass pavilion over a large hole. The roof is made accessible for large scale projection events.
