Abstract Broadcasting is an important means of data dissemination in wireless environments. Data access methods are used to provide power efficient access to broadcast channels. In this paper, we propose a hybrid data access method which is built on the combination of an existing index tree based data access method and hashing techniques. Cost models are derived for the proposed method. Simulation experiments are also conducted to compare the hybrid method with the index tree based methods. We show that under a range of parameters the hybrid method exhibits better performance over the index tree based methods.
